At just 18 years old, the player trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar Yaroslav Demin has debuted his professional record in the second of the ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments that are held this month in the academy’s own facilities.
The former junior world number one has beaten Croatian Luka Mikrut 6-3 5-7 6-3 in a tight final to which he entered after beating Frenchman Enzo Wallart 6-4 6-3 in the semifinals. In fact, the set given up in the final was the only one he lost in the entire tournament.
“I want to thank everyone who has come to support me throughout the week. It has been very important to be able to win my first professional title at home, at the Rafa Nadal Academy. I am very grateful to my team, my family and I am ready for more. “Hopefully I can reach another final in next week’s tournament,” Yaroslav stressed in a ceremony in which he received the champion trophy from Toni Nadal himself.
The Wimbledon Junior finalist in singles and Roland Garros Junior champion in doubles faces his leap to professionalism in this exciting way. In addition, Yaroslav follows in the footsteps of other players trained at the Academy such as Alex Eala, Dani Rincón or Abdullah Shelbayh who also won their first ITF tournaments in Manacor.
The doubles final ended with the victory of the Dutch Michiel de Krom and Ryan Nijboer over the Swiss Jérôme Kym and the Colombian Adrià Soriano 6-4 4-6[11-9] . This week the last of the three men’s tournaments that open the 2024 Spanish calendar will be played at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar. Subsequently, two Junior category tournaments and three ITF women’s tournaments will be held.
