For the second year in a row, Alex Eala has won a junior doubles Grand Slam.

For the second consecutive year, Alex Eala has won a junior doubles Grand Slam . While last year, the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar player debuted her career in this type of tournament at the Australian Open, this Saturday, June 12, she secured another victory alongside Oksana Selekhmeteva at Roland Garros.

Both the 16-year-old Filipina and the Russian, with whom she forms a solid team, lived up to their status as top seeds, beating Russian Maria Bondarenko and Hungarian Amarissa Kiara Toth 6-0, 7-5 in just 67 minutes in the final.

“It means a lot to me to have been able to win the trophy today with my teammate Oksana,” said Eala, who this year reached her career-high ranking of No. 2 in the junior world. “It was an incredible experience this week. I couldn’t get the result I wanted in singles, but I’m happy to be recovering and competing in doubles. I’ll never forget this week.” ”.

As fate would have it, Court 13 was chosen for the junior women’s doubles final, the same number that hosted it last year at Melbourne Park . From her box, Matilde Muñoz praised their brilliant performance in a week in which they defeated Laskevich/Scherbinina (first round), Costoulas/Hietaranta (second round), Marcinko/Szabanin (quarterfinals), and Alvisi/Pigato (semifinals) without dropping a single set.

“They’ve been working well for a couple of weeks. They arrived in Paris after having competed in another final [at the $25,000 tournament in Platja d’Aro],” said Matilde Muñoz, one of their coaches at the Academy. “They started off with some doubts, thinking a bit about a singles loss, but they’ve managed to overcome that and have gone from strength to strength, playing better and better. They’ve had great matches and a good week. This win will give them a lot of confidence and energy to keep going, because the work is hard and long, and these things always help us keep working and believing in the process.”

His next big challenge will be at the All England Lawn Tennis Championships, where Alex will once again compete in both singles and doubles. Good luck at Wimbledon!
