Cardiology

Improves sports performance through the physiological study of the cardiorespiratory system.

Prevention and diagnosis

Sports Cardiology is a medical specialty aimed at the morphological and functional assessment of the cardiovascular system of any person who practices physical activity. Its main objectives are to prevent and diagnose possible pathologies, as well as to improve sports performance through the physiological study of the cardiorespiratory system. Cardiological studies allow us to detect possible signs of cardiac fatigue, assess congenital heart disease and/or rhythm disorders.

By obtaining this data, the Quirónsalud medical team can indicate to our trainers if it is necessary to adapt the training of any of the players.

At the Academy we offer the following cardiological tests:

Electrocardiogram: An electrocardiogram records the electrical signals of the heart. It allows you to monitor your health and quickly detect heart problems. Data is obtained on heart rate, heart rhythm and detects possible structural anomalies, among other pathologies.

Spirometry: Spirometry is an analysis that evaluates lung function by measuring the amount of air inhaled (flow), the amount exhaled and the speed of exhalation. It is used to diagnose respiratory pathologies such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other diseases that affect breathing.

Echocardiogram: Echocardiogram is a diagnostic test that, through high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound), provides information about the shape, size and strength of the heart, the motion and thickness of its walls and the functioning of its valves.

Ergometry: Ergometry is a stress test without gas study. This technique consists of the analysis of an intense physical exercise to evaluate if during the effort there are alterations in the heart, either in its rhythm or in its blood supply, which indicate the existence of an irrigation problem.

Ergospirometry: Ergospirometry or cardiorespiratory stress test (CRST) studies in a global and non-invasive way the body’s overall response to exercise. It is carried out through a rational analysis of the respiratory, cardiovascular, hematopoietic, neuropsychological and musculoskeletal systems.
