RAFA NADAL AND ROLAND GARROS: LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT IN PARIS
In his first appearance at Roland Garros he lifted the first of twelve titles.
Two days after his 19th birthday, on June 5, 2005, Rafa Nadal culminated an impeccable clay-court tour in Paris. After winning the trophies in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome, in his first participation at Roland Garros he lifted the first of the fourteen titles that he presents today in the showcases of the Rafa Nadal Museum Xperience. The Spaniard beat Lars Burgsmuller, Xavier Malisse, Richard Gasquet, Sebastien Grosjean, David Ferrer and Roger Federer, before beating Argentina’s Mariano Puerta 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 in the final round.
“Everything happened very fast. I went from No. 50 in the world to fighting to win Roland Garros in two months. I think my head took it all in well, calmly. I think I had received the right education to be prepared in case something like that happened. I accepted everything normally and I think that was one of the keys to be able to continue with the same intensity of work, enthusiasm and motivation”, recognizes the fourteen-time champion of the Musketeers Cup in this video in which he reviews how he lived the conquest of his first Grand Slam.”
